I love Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV). I put it in my juice, water, salads, hair, bath, wash fruits and vegetables. When my daughter is not feeling well, we usually give her an ACV shot. She is now used to the taste of ACV and sometimes even asks for water with a few drops of ACV or juice with acv and diluted with water. We were at my friend’s house the other day and I got a few stares and laughs when she asked for water with ACV. So I decided to share some of the reasons I take ACV. For general discomforts, fluish symptoms, pains and aches I usually make a shot.

ACV Shot:

  • 1 spoon ACV
  • ½ teaspoon of Turmeric
  • 1 spoon of Honey
  • 2- 3 spoons of Warm Water

Mix and chug down. The shot isn’t the tastiest, but it does the job well.

Guess what happened during the planning and writing of this post? If you guessed I got sick you are right. While I started with the shot above, what made me feel a lot better was the following mixture:

ACV TEA:

  • 2 spoons acv
  • ½ teaspoon of Turmeric
  • ½ teaspoon of ginger
  • ¼ teaspoon of cayenne
  • ¼ teaspoon of ground black pepper
  • 2 spoons of honey
  • Cup of boiling water

This tea made me feel warm, cleared my sinuses as well as my throat almost instantly. I did not get better instantly though. I still needed to rest and drink lots of liquids and a few more cups of the tea before I was back to my normal self. That said, I believe I wasn’t sick for too long. Only one crappy day and 2 – 3 days of somewhat sick and then back to normal. If you do not rest, you will take longer to get better so make sure you rest when you are sick.

Just what are the benefits of ACV you ask?

(Some) Benefits of Apple Cider Vinegar:

  • Weight Loss: I must admit, this is not why I take acv but studies have shown that the pectin in ACV helps to reduce appetite
  • Reduces bloating
  • Soothes sore throat
  • Helps you sleep better at night
  • Stuffy nose decongestant
  • Tummy issues: Helps with gas and cramps
  • Helps get rid of dandruff: Add ACV to your final rinse after shampooing your hair
  • Boosts energy
  • Reduces Candida overgrowth
  • Reduces constipation

Some studies show that ACV can also help to reduce blood sugar. It also has a lot of uses around the home. Am I the only ACV loving mummy out here? What do you use ACV for?

There are a lot more benefits of ACV that you could really use, but don’t just take my word for it. Read, try it out and you will be hooked.
